Consent Orders

You've already agreed on the property split, the parenting arrangements, or both. We'll turn that agreement into a proper, enforceable court order, at one fixed price, reviewed by a family lawyer before it's lodged.

Agreeing on the split is the hard part, and you've already done it. Turning that agreement into something the court will actually enforce is largely paperwork from here, not a negotiation. That's exactly what consent orders are for.

What are consent orders?

Consent orders are a written agreement between you and your ex-partner about property, parenting, or both, that's been approved by a court and made legally enforceable. Unlike a private agreement, a court order can be enforced if one of you later doesn't follow through. Want the full walkthrough of the process? See how consent orders work.

Already agreed and just need it made official? That's the most common situation we see, and it's exactly what this product is built for - read more on our already agreed, formalise it page.

How this works

No long forms up front. The detail comes later, once your documents are actually being prepared.

1

Tell us what's agreed

A couple of lines about your property and/or parenting agreement is enough to start.

2

We prepare your consent orders

At a fixed price, with no hourly billing or surprise invoices.

3

A family lawyer reviews, then it's filed

An independent family lawyer in our network checks everything before it goes to the court for approval.

Scope

Consent orders are for situations where you and your ex-partner already agree on the property and/or parenting split. If there's still something contested between you, this isn't the right product - we'll tell you honestly and point you to a family lawyer who handles disputes.

Questions people ask us about consent orders

Do I need a lawyer for consent orders?
You don't need to hire your own lawyer to negotiate anything, since consent orders are for situations where you've both already agreed. But the court still needs your agreement checked and properly drafted before it will approve it - that's the review an independent family lawyer in our network does for you as part of the process.
What's the difference between a parenting plan and consent orders?
A parenting plan is a written agreement between you and your ex-partner that isn't approved by a court. Consent orders go through the court and become legally enforceable once approved. If you want the extra certainty of a court order, consent orders are the right product; if you're happy with an informal but clear written arrangement, a parenting plan may be enough. See our parenting plan vs consent orders comparison for more detail.
How does the court process work?
Once your documents are prepared and reviewed, they're filed with the court for approval. The court checks that the orders are fair and reasonable before approving them - it doesn't usually require you to attend in person. See our how consent orders work page for the full walkthrough.
How much does it cost?
Our fully prepared and lawyer-reviewed consent orders service starts from $1,990, fixed, with no hourly billing. If you'd rather prepare the documents yourself, our DIY Kit is a cheaper starting point.
How long does it take?
Preparing your documents is usually quick once we have what we need from both of you. Court approval times are outside our control and vary, but we'll give you a realistic estimate upfront.
